When upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, you may receive the following error

"upgrade fails with error code 0x8007007e, api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-1-1.dll is missing or corrupt"

SOLUTION

You can resolve this error by replacing the wimgapi.dll file.  Please follow the steps below and then try to upgrade again:

  1. Open Windows Explorer.

  2. Locate the file:  C:\Windows\System32\wimgapi.dll

  3. Select the wimgapi.dll file, then right-click the file and select Copy.

  4. Then locate and open the folder:  C:\Windows10Upgrade

  5. Right-click in the open folder and select Paste.

  6. You should see a warning that there’s already a file with the same name at that location.  Select Copy and Replace.
